Floriculture
Course Description:
Students will learn the principles of floral design, flower arrangement tool use, flower processing and identification of cut flowers. The class designs flower arrangements, corsages and boutonnieres; price arrangements and prepare them for sale. Students will also be responsible for the production and marketing of cut flowers and bedding plants.

Needed: Wreath & flowers to complete – End of October
Holiday project – to be discussed in December
Spring Project – to be discussed in April
Grades:
This course will be based on weighted categories. The categories are divided as follows:
Notebook: All class handouts, assignments, notes and graded materials should be kept in a notebook. On some exams and quizzes you will be able to use your notebook. Also, your final exam will come from the materials in the notebook. 10% of grade.
Participation: You will be given points on certain days for participation. This grade can be earned by doing what is asked of you during that lesson. You must follow all expectations as a student to earn the full points. If you are absent an alternative participation assignment will be given to earn those points. YOU WILL BE IN THE GREENHOUSE AND WILL BE GIVEN A GRADE FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION!!!!
Assignments & labs: You will have a variety of assignments and labs in which will be given point values. If you are absent and it is excused you will be given the opportunity to make up all assignments or labs. This is separate from your participation grade and will need to made up before or after school.
Quizzes & Exams: A quiz will be given at the completion of an area of study. Additional quizzes may be given at any time and may be unannounced. Exams will be given at the completion of a unit and a final exam will be given.
Record Books: You will receive points at the end of each month for recording the month’s records in your book.
Late Assignments:
Assignments turned in after due date will receive a ZERO! No exceptions!

Classroom Expectations
 Be in your assigned seat ready to work with sharpened pencil and paper when bell rings. If not you will be counted tardy.
 Bring paper, pencil, notebook and completed assignments to class everyday. You will not be allowed to return to your locker to get these items.
 DO NOT SIT ON THE TABLES
 Follow Directions
 Stay in Seat unless given permission to get up
 Keep hands, feet, objects to self
 Clean up after yourself
Class Discipline Plan:
1st consequence – Warning
2rd consequence – 30 minutes after school with Mrs. Buller
3th consequence – Principals Office
An inappropriate action can skip 1st & 2nd consequence and student can immediately be sent to principal’s office.
Make-up work:
Make-up work is your responsibility. It is allowed for each excused absence. All work should be turned in allowing one class period for each day absent. If you are truant, have Out-of-School Suspension, or have an unexcused absence, you will not be allowed to turn in make-up work for the day you missed (see Student Planner). It is recommended that you still complete the work in order to stay up with the material.
Grading Scale:
The district grading scale will be used to determine final grades (see Student Planner).

2nd Semester – GREENHOUSE
I. Identify what horticulture is, create an understanding of the horticulture industry and how it affects our society.
II. Determine ways plants are classified using taxonomy groups and other ways to classify plants.
III. Describe the plant anatomy and the functions of the parts.
IV. Compare the above and belowground environmental characteristics that a plant needs to grow and describe the importance of soil.
V. Identify the growth and development of the plant and the different developmental stages a plant goes through to survive.
VI. Discuss plant genetics and how plants are improved for society needs.
VII. Practice marketing and the post harvest procedures needed for horticultural products.
VIII. Identify common enemies of horticultural plants and determine methods of controlling disease and pest.
IX. Apply different methods of propagation.
X. Determine what factors influence the choice of houseplants.
